“2401” quietly opens with a narration that feels like the announcement of a show’s beginning.
What unfolds here is not a mix built on the mere combination of beats.
Spoken word, organic jazz elements, a post-rock structure infused with dub, and lunatic yet modern voices emerge throughout.
Street sounds and rap entangled with record noise, introspective piano harmonies, floating vocals woven into groovy machine beats, and finally a cosmic, drifting ambient that guides the listener from an ending into another world.
All of these elements are layered and placed on the same plane, constructing a singular world.
This work presents a fantastical and enigmatic solo exhibition space, structured as a two-part composition—Side A and Side B—where the mix itself functions as the exhibition.
There are no visuals—or so it seems. In truth, this artistic mix was made possible through an encounter with the artwork by Ippei Matsui.
The selected painting resonates with scenes from DJ SUNDAE’s 2026 Asia tour, existing like a postcard sent from somewhere along the journey.
This mixtape stands as an object akin to contemporary mail art, emerging through the interplay between sound and image.
