To kickstart a new chapter of his long dormant Inhale Music imprint, Texan Michael Day has turned to Vancouver-based tech-house don Jay Tripwire and his similarly vintage 8 Channels project. Aluvium I is, remarkably, the long-serving artist's first missive as 8 Channels for almost 16 years. The three cuts on show are, as expected, pleasingly raw, off-kilter and undeniably psychedelic, starting with creepy 4am special 'Daddy Sent The Elephant Man', where echoing vocal snippets and unsettling electronics ride a typically skewed tech-house groove. The Canadian opts for a deeper and more dub-flecked exploration of his mind-altering signature sound on 'Sand', while 'Trench' is a canny combination of raw, brain-melting motifs, hypnotic beats and deep, weighty bass.
