In-demand dub mana from ’83 bubbles up on a first time vinyl reissue.
From melodica-lifted roots to raving reggae disco pings and wild spacey synth work, ’30 Pieces of Dub’ delivers on all counts. Executive producer Winston Curtis, a Jamaican artist living in England, where he ran Jah Lion, pulls gems from various nooks of the dub spectrum, opening with Bob Skeng’s bloozy melodica on the title tune and running thru to Vin Gordon’s trombone on the rhythm for Freddy Clarke’s ‘Fight I Down’. Standouts include the haunted trodder ‘No Dub Like Dis Ya Dub’ and reggae disco winner ‘Night Ravers Dub’ at end of the A-side, and the psyched synth work on the B-side’s ‘Englishman Dub’, but it all plays out like a dream.
